by Prof Ivo Bianchi
I would like a treatment protocol in a patient with gout accompanied by episodes of recurrent pain spreading to the feet, with all the characteristics of inflammation and which can be controlled only with anti-inflammatories and cortisone (Bentelan® [betamethasone] i.m. 4 mg). The patient’s uricemia values are 10 mg, immune studies are negative for rheumatic disease, CRP is raised at 13, blood iron levels are decreased and the full blood count is normal. Renal function is good; the patient also presents with hypercholesterolemia (290) and is overweight
